CHAPTER 02: MAX and NURMS

NURMS

NURMS is really just a fancy way of saying "Meshsmooth". "NURMS" is the algorithm that is used in smoothing a mesh. And indeed, a most successful algorithm it is, if you understand how to use it to your advantage.

Mesh smooth works by finding the tension between vertices, as such, in a way, you need to create tension where needed, and leave it loose where you need free flowing lines…

Basically, NURMS will try to touch the middle of the faces, while keeping the surface smooth. Like so:



2a (Here in orange the original mesh is visible, the white mesh on top is the result of the meshsmooth modifier. The more you use meshsmooth the more predictable it becomes)
