CHAPTER 03:

d. UVW Hell

Ok, stickers are simple objects to start with, but when there are 5 or six on top of each other they can become complex when you are trying to interperate them in a virtual world… What about if you have a panel that has one sticker on it that is in the middle of a stack?

Simply put, you position them off the panel…

To the finished panel you apply a UVW modifier as such:

3i: A typical stack for a body panel on this model. Note, the UVW modifiers are all renamed to the stickers name to help keep track of where everything is, also, the "Map chanel" is "8", this is also its position in the stack, 8th from the bottom. The material composite slot is also "8". Oooo spooky!

It is a good idea to name the modifier by right clicking and selecting “Rename”

Each UVW map modifier has a channel ID, you may get a lot of maps in each stack, it gets confusing! Name them according to the orders they are in.

Press on the “+” symbol to the left of the modifier name, there select the UVW gizmo… by default it is planar set horizontally project straight down….

Use the scale, move, and rotate tools to move the gizmo to where you wish it to be. It is a good idea to set the “visible in view port” toggle on the material editor on the map you want to see. Keep an eye out for maps projecting all the way through a mesh onto something you dont want to be seen!

3j: While Adjusting the UVW check the "visible in viewport" (checquered box). Note that only one composite map is visible at a time which can make aligning stickers difficult.
