So I get a call from Jon Baker, telling me he has this series of 3 commercials coming up that involve a bunch of toy characters running around in shot environments.
He told me that there was an image of some cute characters on my site that he thought fit into his idea for the spot.
Ha, I think, that image is from when i was in early high school! Funny how something that i really didn't intend on showing at all, from so long ago, brought a very cool project to the table.
The idea was to create characters made out of food in the style of the Kid robot, tokyo plastic toy genre, that could be made in 3D.

the next couple of weeks I sketched out characters according to food type. Each type got about 5-7 different characters. In total there was over 100 characters to choose from.
Jon and I picked out a select bunch of characters for further development, that ended up being the final 20.
When the characters were delivered I also sketched out some details of the characters, where I thought questions from the modelers may arise.
There were 2 ads made in total at Fuel in Sydney, and the overall reaction has been that everyone LOVES the donut, my least favorite character. |
